Isla Mujeres

I woke up prepared, both physically and mentally, for this adventure. I
packed days in advance and only had the final carry on to pack. I was ready. It
was 3 am and it was time to head to the airport. We had it all figured out.
Park and ride, North lot, we would ride the light rail and only pay $3 each.
FAIL! Great idea except we missed the fine print that it’s not a 24 hour lot.
You would have thought we would have figured it out when we noticed there were
hardly any cars in the lot or that everyone riding the light rail was airport
employees not travelers. Yes we were the only ones with luggage. It still
didn’t register with us and probably wouldn’t have until we got back and our
truck was towed away. We even high fived to our brilliance when we arrived at
the airport.
We were lucky. The gal who managed the luggage scanner mentioned she saw us
on the light rail and then burst our high five bubble and informed us of the
lot parameters. We were lucky but bummed too. It was only 4 am now and I wasn’t
about to call my parents yet. They would later be our tow prevention and save
us from the stress of bailing our car out of truck jail.
We took off at 6 and landed in Houston Texas around 8. I called my parents
and we went back and forth were the key was hidden. If not there then maybe
under the hood or behind the tire, (at this point I handed the phone to Paul)
or maybe were we said at the beginning. If worst came to worst, there was a key
at our house. My mom simply responded, “Paaauuulllll.” It worked out and the
key was where we had said in the first place.
I am not sure how to begin blogging about this trip. There is just too much
to say and too many images to post, so I hope that you enjoy this by reading
and soak it all in. It’s a big one.
Our trip began in Isla Mujeres, an island off of Cancun, to be precise. I
had been researching the Caribbean and other places for our last big hurrah for
spring break. The last week to act like college kids before the real world
started again. Paul’s buddy Cory had a roommate that went to the island and
said it was fabulous. And there you have it. Well long story short.
All it took was a look off the ferry to confirm my suspicions; this was in
fact the most beautiful places I had ever been. Well, off to our room. The
usual questions swirled in my head. Would it be nice? On the beach? Clean? It
was all of the above! Phew, that was a relief.
Just a few minute at the beach swing bar, all the stress, frustration of the
parking fiasco and the Minnesota cold
melted away into jokes and the best Daiquiris made by the tiniest bartender.
You learn a lot when traveling with together. I got to know our traveling
companions over the next week better than it takes to get to know most people
in a year. Cory. The goofiest happygolucky guy that you could meet.
I am at a loss of words, really! I did expect them to be nice and fantastic,
but I didn’t think that they would be so easy going and fun to travel with. Did
I mention entertaining as well? In one big blurp, Scorpion eating, Pink
Cadillac driving, Beach boy playing speedy golf cart pub-crawl. Every night was
washed away into jokes of humor from the day. I am telling you. These folks,
are among the best that you could ever encounter.
Island of women, or otherwise known as Isla Mujeres was founded as a remote
fishing island, about 8 miles off the shore of a part of Mexico which we now
call Cancun. Isla Mujeres is still a quiet getaway from the more frequently
visited and widely known Cancun.
This five mile island has turned into a mini resort island that still
maintained it’s quiet and laid back feel. Just by exploring around the island, one
can definitely feel the authenticity still mixed in with the today’s Isla
Mujeres.

Garage Sale!!

Spring cleaning is in full swing over here. As I start to clean out our closets, garage and basement I am finding a ton of treasures that we no longer need. A great way to get rid of all these fabulous items is to host our own Garage sale. So join us as we put all of our items on display for cunning bargain shoppers to hopefully turn a profit out, and rehome all of our items we no longer have room or use for. Whatever items are left after the sale, we can donate. If you would like to add a few items to the rehoming party, let me know. Pick a price and come on over:)

Now we just need to pick the perfect weekend:)

I have started to save, sort and upload photos of different themes as a reference. Here are some of my favorites! With Thanksgiving only 2 days away I thought I would start with Turkey!

The traditional handprint turkey is an oldy but a goody! We are creating handprint calendars and this will be for November.

Home Sick

Home sick with the flu or food poisoning today. NOT fun! It was a good day to stay home though. It's windy, rainy and cold. Roxy had a hard time not blowing away. I have been flu free for about 12 hours but still don't have an appetite and yet have not lost even 1 pound.

Spent most of the day doing laundry to get the sick out and watching law and order re-runs. It's actually pretty addicting.

Back to work tomorrow, it will be a long day.
